You really should stop
By Chisimdi's blog - April 09, 2020
I wasn't with my phone for about 8 hours today.
While away, I occasionally wondered what was going on with it. Who was calling? What text messages was I missing? It was the feeling of having your favourite snack in the fridge. You don't want it yet, but you can't stop thinking about it.
When I finally got my phone, I pounced on it excitedly. I was so sure I had missed out on so much.
I hadn't missed out on anything. Well, unless you count the message from NCDC urging returning travellers to isolate. I was disappointed.
You see, just like most of us, I'm into my phone. It feels like if I didn't check it so often, I'd miss out on something important. Today shows I have nothing to lose if I didn't obsess about it.
See how the pandemic has put everything on pause? Do you see how everything you've been fretting about can wait? We really should stop letting anything order than ourselves control our lives; not social media, not our career, not relationships, not our phone, nothing at all!
Not if we can help it.
